Trust me, I know how hard it is to try to stay healthy during the holidays… but YOU CAN DO IT! Take this time off to be grateful and mindful.
There are so many ways to keep your kids active during this crazy time of year! You can go skating, skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, or tubing with your family! Or host a family workout before eating Christmas dinner (I know, crazy right? But it happens). When going outside for winter activities, keep a watchful eye on your kids as they’re at high risk for injuries – the last thing anyone wants is an injury during the holidays!
Here’s a tip: Do a family activity everyday, 10 days before Christmas… that way, you won’t feel so guilty eating all the holiday food! But remember to have smart food choices – just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you can eat three times as much… unfortunately. Another idea is to substitute practice times and game times with fun family activities instead, that way the routine strays consistent and it keeps your kids from being bored!
Getting a workout in during the break can be tough, but if you get it done in the morning, you won’t have to worry about it for the rest of the day – and you’ll be more energized, too! Have some fun planning out workouts, and always remember that there is ALWAYS time and opportunity for a workout! The hardest part is getting yourself up and at it – but you’ll feel nice and accomplished after, I guarantee it! Constantly motivating your kids and reminding them of the positive outcomes will definitely make it easier for them! Remind them that staying active will also prevent them from being injured for when the Winter break is over, so in reality, they’ll be ahead of the game! Also, don’t forget to remind them to stay hydrated as well; the cold air can really dry the skin out!
