This is a game I like to play with the kids to improve their awareness of their immediate surroundings and dribbling skills while being able to copy/mimic movements of other players. If they don’t keep their head up, they may bump into the head of the snake!

Game: Dog, Cat, Chicken

Dog, cat, chicken…oh my! The name of the game may sound like a riddle, but there is nothing puzzling about how this game is played. It is a good twist on the traditional “Octopus” game with the goal in helping the youth learn fundamental movement skills and to focus on agility, speed while increasing their heart rate before they jump into basketball activities. Game: Dead Ant Tag

Dead Ant Tag teaches players to keep their heads up and encourages them to communicate to each other whenever they need help. It also works on fundamental movement skills, agility, speed and coordination. Drill: Octopus Dribbling Part 2

After your players have mastered the octopus dribbling drill with one basketball, challenge them to this version which involves dribbling with two basketballs! Players, including myself, tend to use their dominant hand to dribble. This drill will force them to practice dribbling with both hands at the same time!
